Hanging Lights

Hanging Lights

Some refer to a pendant lamp as a hanging light. Some hanging lights are fixtures. A fixture, or in this case a pendant light fixture, is one that is wired directly into an electrical box in the ceiling and is operated by a wall switch. The wall switch can be a simple toggle switch or a dimmer switch, to give you full control of the mood that you are creating, as can be seen in this beautiful "cobalt blue kitchen".

Swag Lamps

Pendant lighting also comes in a swag lamp style. A swag lamp isn't a permanent fixture. They normally have 2 ceiling hangers that allow the cord to "swag" across the ceiling, to position the lamp over he area that you wish to have light. They are thus fully adjustable.

So, call them what you like, pendant lighting, hanging lights, or swag lamps. You just need to decide if you want it as a fixture or adjustable.
